Halloween

Happy Halloween! This Halloween season has been great. Matt decided he didn't want to do costumes for the two of us so it made it really easy on me. Porter wanted to be a purple octopus and Loch was a shark the first night and then Dwight Schrute (from the Office) for all the other events. My mom let us borrow the shark costume and I made the octopus for Porter. As soon as I put the shark on Loch, he started pinching me and making munching sounds.I found the perfect Dwight Schrute glasses and then dyed Loch's shirt yellow. We went to the La Mesa 1st ward carnival, La Mesa 2nd ward carnival, the annual Wilde party and then had a party at my parents last night. My mom was busy making LOTS of grand kid costumes this year. The Wilde party group shot. All of the costumes were awesome! The grand kids (I think all but mine) carved pumpkins at my parents' house. My mom had the place decorated so cute! I wish I had my camera. We ate two kinds of chili, the best corn bread, salad, and pumpkin cupcakes. I made some spider deviled eggs. The boys in their Halloween jammies this morning. Then they decided to get wild and crazy. They love the old batman theme song. Loch walks around singing it all the time. He thinks every cape is a batman cape. We were at Trader Joe's the other day and a worker walked by with the frequent flyer cape on and Loch was pointing and yelling, "Batman!" My mom made me the cutest Halloween quilt ever! I love it! This isn't a good picture because I took it with my cell phone.

Salt Lake

We took a little family road trip to Salt Lake City earlier this month. We went to a few sessions of conference. Thanks to Becky for watching the boys so Matt and I could attend one together! It was awesome. The boys were great travelers, except for Loch asking for a tic tac every 5 minutes. I made a backpack full of treats and activities for Porter. I ran out of time and couldn't make Loch a bag so I filled his backpack with treats. My mom contributed with a pirate puppet for Porter and a crocodile puppet for Loch. They loved them. Matt and Lindsay let us stay at their place the first and last night we were there. It was nice to visit with them! They have a beautiful house and Loch has been asking to go to "tee-tah'' every day since our trip because he really wants to play with their cat: ) While were were in Provo, we went to the Bean museum and saw all the animals. I love the doors (and especially the door knobs) on the Salt Lake Temple. We drove up the canyon to Silver Lake to walk around a bit. The boys enjoyed exploring. Loch fell off the trail into the marshy, foot-deep water about 5 minutes into the walk. His shorts were wet the rest of the time. They were pulling some funny faces for me. Porter found a cool caterpillar. We ate at Cafe Rio two or three times. I love that place. It was great having some family time together.

Loch is two today! We celebrated on Saturday with a circus party and it was so much fun. There are about a thousand pictures in this post but I wanted to document it for me: )

He opened his presents this morning. And by "he" I mean Porter. Loch just wanted to sit and watch. At the circus party we served chicken kabobs, pretzels with cheese, nachos, peanuts, popcorn, caramel apples, cupcakes, cookies, fruit, and vegetables. I showed up to my parents house with a truckload of stuff and they went to work helping me get everything ready. When I practiced the caramel apples earlier in the week, they turned out perfect. On Saturday, the caramel was still a little too hot so it was kind of melting off the apples. My mom made some awesome red velvet cupcakes. She picked up sour balls for me on her trip to Salt Lake at the Sweet Candy Co. Cheryl made a rainbow fruit tray that looked amazing! We gave each of the little ones a bag on their way out with animal cookies, licorice, punch balloon, ring pop, and sour balls. The kids decorated sugar cookies. My dad slaved away putting all the kabobs together and then grilling them up. Loch's cake turned out pretty cute. We had a dress up area with props to take pictures. Felix was too cute with his popcorn cup. Bailey and Micah helped me blow up all those balloons on that rainbow banner in the background. I bought vintage sodas for a ring toss game. I forgot to bring a ring, so my dad went tinkering around down in the garage and came up with some black rubber rings that he cut up. Felix got excited when he scored. I made some little bean bags for a bean bag toss game. I didn't know how I was going to put the poster up when I made it. Again, my dad went down in the garage and started drilling and came up with this crate to attach it to. It was perfect. I found a vintage old maid circus game and hung up some of the cards with pictures of Loch. This was the cake before I did the frosting on the outside. Loch is so much fun. He loves putting gloves on his hands and everything is a baseball bat to swing. He likes playing with anything large that he can push around (i.e. large coolers with wheels, wagons, big metal dollies). He also likes brooms. The little guy is obsessed with shoes. He has to have a pair on as soon as he wakes up in the morning. He got a baseball glove from Kirk and Cheryl for his birthday and he fell asleep after his party with his glove on and ball in hand. I had to pry his glove off for church on Sunday but he got it back after and fell asleep with it again.Happy birthday Loch! We love you!
